Coherence Theory of Truth
The coherence theory of truth is a concept that aligns with postmodernism. According to this theory, multiple sets of facts form different belief systems, all of which may be more or less true. For something to be considered true, it must logically fit within a specific belief system. There is no claim to universal truth, but rather a focus on fitting into a particular understanding of truth. In the postmodern context, where small communities with their own truth and morals are celebrated, truth is determined by coherence within a community’s belief system, rather than across all belief systems. This truth is grounded in the propositions of the community, rather than in the material world we live in.
